A FAMILY from Coaley have made a last emotional appeal for information about beloved jewellery cruelly stolen by thieves over the summer.

Nan Dyer said she thinks about what happened at her home, which she shares with her husband Terry, back in July most days.

Their smallholding in Coaley was broken into and ransacked on Friday, July 15, between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.

"I can’t walk through the back door without seeing the broken window and the kitchen turned out," said Mrs Dyer.

Among the items stolen was Mrs Dyer’s ruby and diamond engagement ring and a silver watch given for gallantry in the First World War.

The watch had been given to Mrs Dyer’s father, Sgt W Oram, when he returned from the war by his local community.

The watch has a distinctive engraving on it, which reads: "The Great War, 28.1.20 Presented to Sgt W Oram by the inhabitants of Radstock, 4th Aug to 11th Nov 1918."

Mrs Dyer said: "The watch probably means the most to me because it was my father’s.

"We had the jewellery earmarked to give to grandchildren when they turned 18.

"There’s nothing else here to steal, they took everything that was dear like my engagement ring."

Since the burglary three months ago the family have visited pawn shops and jewellers in the district, distributed 1,000 leaflets at car boot sales and supermarkets and scanned the internet as well as contacted companies that buy gold.

Mrs Dyer said: "I know it sounds extreme but it was just so important that watch, my fear is that they just chucked it somewhere."

She added: "I know we will never get it back. My only hope is that the watch was so hot that after they got it they couldn’t get rid of it."

Mrs Dyer is still offering a reward for the return of the watch.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 508 for July 15, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
