PLANS have been approved for 80 new homes in Wickwar, Gloucestershire.

South Gloucestershire Council gave the approval to Bellway Homes to start construction on land near Sodbury Road, off Poplar Lane.

The new development will be based in the South of the village, and is based just five miles from Junction 14 of the M5 and eight miles from Junction 18 of the M4, via Chipping Sodbury.

The development – which will be known as Tyndale Reach – will also include landscaped open space including play areas, allotments and wetlands.

As well as providing additional housing, the development is now set to generate more than £800,000 of investment in the local community through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

With work now able to start, Bellway's are hoping that the first homes will be in place by the end of the year.

Sales Manager for Bellway South West, Rachel Way, revealed how excited the company was that work can now begin.

"We are delighted to have received planning approval for our new homes in Wickwar, which will help meet the growing need for new housing in South Gloucestershire," she said.

"We’re expecting a great deal of interest in the development, given its peaceful village location within easy reach of both the M5 and M4. This sought-after location will attract a variety of people and we are confident to have something for everyone.

"Details about Tyndale Reach are now available on our website, and people who are interested in making this new development their home can register their interest so they receive the latest updates as they become available."

South Glos Council said in a statement: "In December 2016 a planning application for 80 new homes in Wickwar was approved.

"The scheme will include 35% affordable housing and approval was subject to improvements being made to the local infrastructure by the developer."
