COMMUNITY composting has taken place in the Leisure Centre car park for over ten years.
This site is very well used especially since the imposition of the £36 charge for green bin collection.
The value to the community is huge and has reduced the amount of green waste going into landfill.
In 2012 the Composting site was awarded a Gold Medal in the Britain in Bloom competition.
The volunteers keep the area tidy, sort logs for wood burning stoves, tidy the adjacent woodland and assist local visitors unloading green waste or uploading ready-made compost or woodchip.
Many allotment holders at Daggs also regularly use the site which reduces bonfires on the allotments.
I would like to thank the volunteers for all their help running the site over the many years and hope the local authority will show common sense and keep the site open.
The cost of picking up fly-tipped waste and depositing green waste in landfill (due to the landfill tax) will be very expensive.
