THIS is to thank our many hundreds of patrons for their careful use of the Thornbury Community Compost Site, but we must apologise for the times that we have had to close when the material has spilled (or sadly sometimes been left) on the roadway. If the site is full to the edge please take your material to the SITA Sort It Centre.

As you may be aware we are in a period of change and although we are confident that we can remain open until next April, we do have problems with the quantity of material that arrives, and the cost of dealing with large volumes. Your generous donations for compost are essential to cover this cost. Since the Green Bin charge was introduced the volume has nearly doubled, if you can compost material at home it would really help.

We have been able to considerably reduce the cost and the “road mileage” of the previous South Glos. Council system, by using a local farmer, but whether we can continue to provide the service to the local community, will depend partly on political good will to help us with some of our costs, but also on our ability to restrict the large loads from distant contractors that sometimes appear.

We are working hard to improve the green credentials of Thornbury, by creating quality compost and bags of seasoned firewood from local material. Any help that you can provide would be much appreciated.
