A DISAPPOINTING Bank Holiday weekend has left City adrift at the bottom of the Championship table and hopes of survival this season are all but gone.

The Wolves result over a fortnight ago was a big hammer blow, and City’s poor away form continued with a 3-0 defeat at Derby on Good Friday. In truth, the home side were dominant throughout and once again City failed to create enough chances whilst being weak at the back. I was very puzzled with the starting line-up which saw the hard-working Liam Kelly dropped in favour of the more lightweight Neil Kilkenny. With Sam Baldock also returning to the line-up to play alongside Steve Davies up front, it was probably too attacking away from home and we were duly exposed.

I had few complaints with the performance on Easter Monday against Sheffield Wednesday as we were the better team throughout. Kelly returned to the starting line-up along with Stephen Pearson. If I had one complaint it would be that if anything O’Driscoll fielded a too defensive line-up on Monday. It’s almost as if he got his team selections for the Derby and Wednesday games the wrong way around!

Nevertheless, we deserved more from the Wednesday game but unfortunately came away with a 1-1 draw after Baldock fired in our equaliser deep into second half stoppage time. Liam Fontaine was sadly at fault for the first goal when he dithered on the ball. Although a great servant for City over the past few years, Fonts has had a forgettable season for us. To be fair, he isn’t the only one.

We are bottom of the table on merit, and although O’Driscoll has dramatically improved our home form since arriving we have been a poor team over the course of the season and deserve to be relegated.

Survival would take a dramatic upturn in form, needing to win at least four of our remaining six games and probably drawing the other two. I honestly cannot see it happening.

City visit Burnley this Saturday (3pm) knowing that another defeat would bring the club a step closer to preparing for life in League One next season.
