CITY’S league and cup form this season could hardly be any different.

We have won all three games played in cup competitions but are still looking for that elusive first win in the league following two disappointing results at home in the past week.

Manager O’Driscoll must be tearing his hair out trying to work out why the results and performances are so at odds with each other.

The lack of a win in seven league games is starting to become a real worry, especially as we now go into a local derby at Swindon’s County Ground – a ground that historically we don’t seem to have done well at.

The last two performances against Peterborough and Shrewsbury have almost felt like a bit of a step back after encouraging signs from our earlier games.

To Peterborough’s credit they are one of the stronger sides in this league as they managed to retain most of their squad who played in The Championship last season.

However, following a promising opening spell we gifted them their opener with Fielding at fault in the City goal.

After that we really seemed to struggle to get into the game and early in the second half a summer target of City - striker Assombalonga - scored an exceptional goal to double the visitors’ lead. Peterborough then made it 3-0 with Assombalonga getting the better of Cunningham to break through and score.

Then on Tuesday night City, with an opportunity to right the wrong of Saturday’s result, could only draw against Shrewsbury Town. The Shrews had taken the lead through Taylor on the break in the first half only for Emmanuel-Thomas to score another cracking goal late on to rescue City. Although we finished strongly, a draw was probably a fair result.

Fans’ expectations are certainly that we should be beating the likes of Shrewsbury at home, but this is still a very new and young team that should get better with time. We had the majority of possession in both games, but need to enjoy that possession in areas further up the pitch not just in our own half.

On Saturday City travel to Swindon Town (3pm). The Wiltshire club have made a decent start to the season and beat Crewe 5-0 in their last outing at home. Unfortunately, I have to say I would be surprised if this game was to yield our first league win of the season but here’s hoping.
