BERKELEY-based cycling siblings Etienne and Pfeiffer Georgi competed in the three-day Isle of Man Youth and Junior Tour recently.
Both Castle School students were riding for Giant CC Halo Films.
Beginning with a 1.3km seafront prologue and progressing to a 29km hilly road stage, Pfeiffer, 13, took commanding wins in the first two stages in the under-14 girls’ category.
However, disaster struck in the final 19km seafront Criterium, when Pfeiffer was brought down in an early crash.
Valiantly chasing the 50-strong bunch of the combined under-16 and under-14 girls’ categories, Pfeiffer completed the course on her own, with a subsequently diagnosed fractured wrist, and salvaged second place overall in the under-14 girls’ category.
Etienne’s tour was fortunately less calamitous, achieving 14th place overall in the under-16 boys’ category.
Competing over extended distances of 36km for the hilly stage two and 34km for the stage three Criterium, Etienne’s best stage result was fifth place in the frenetic Criterium sprint of the 70 riders.
