Middleton Cup
Gloucestershire 95 (4pts) Worcestershire 127 (18pts)
GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S hopes of topping the Middleton Cup group lay in tatters as Worcestershire chalked up a 32-shot win at Barnwood.
The loss meant they did not finish top and Worcestershire also lost out as Wiltshire won on the final end with a measure to take a one-shot win over Warwickshire to progress to the quarter-finals.
The rink of John Smallwood (Olveston), Roger Bird (Tetbury), Nigel Cansdale (Cirencester), and Paul Bryant (Olveston) came up trumps again when, up against Andy Walters, they won by a convincing margin of 26-9.
Chris Roach (Cheltenham), Jack Daniels (Bishops Cleeve), Chris Davies (Coleford) and Rob Griffiths (Cheltenham) held off the challenge of Rob Stanley for an 18-16 win.
Adam Smith (Dowty), Vince Wilks (Gloucester City), Mark Perry and Lee Williamson (both Cheltenham) could not get the better of Steve Poyner and lost out 18-15.
Nathan Kitchen (Cheltenham), Mike Prosser (Gloucester Spa), Steve Knight and Mike Woodbridge (both Cheltenham) trailed behind Rob McCaughtrie as they lost 22-16.
The two end rinks suffered badly with John Heathcote (Stroud), Eddie Kavanagh (Tewkesbury), Keith Hinder (Dursley)and Dave Howes (Stroud) crashing to a 30-10 defeat to Grant Burgess.
It was a similar story for the rink of Ben Coldrick (Dowty), Nick Holliday (Cheltenham), John Roach and Stuart Hodges (both Cheltenham), who went down by the wide margin of 32-10 against Dean Hemming.
