ROVERS enjoyed a positive Bank Holiday weekend with a four-point return from two games to get their Conference campaign up and running.

The pressure was on at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday to get our first win but the Gas made hard work of breaking down opponents Telford.

After a poor first half Ollie Clarke lit up the occasion with an excellent strike that proved to be the difference between the two sides.

The team played better from that moment on as the tension was lifted and confidence spread.

You could sense getting that first win was a huge moment that will hopefully be a springboard to better things after a poor start to life in the Vanarama Conference.

Rovers continued their resurgence with an excellent display at Forest Green on Bank Holiday Monday.

Darrell Clarke’s side looked purposeful from the start and up for the challenge.

We played some neat, incisive football at times and only thing missing was an end product.

Cunnington looks a good addition up front as he provided the physical stature to hold the ball up and bring others into play.

The midfield looked pacy and determined and we looked well organised at the back.

Lockyer caught the eye was a performance that mixed quality with determination and Clarke, no doubt with confidence high following his goal on Saturday, looks like he has moved his game on a level from last season.

It was disappointing not to be going in at half-time in front but Rovers were not deterred and took a deserved lead through an excellent Monkhouse header.

Now was the time to kill the game off but Rovers were not clinical or ruthless enough in the final third and Forest Green came back strongly to grab an equaliser.

It was an entertaining contest that will give Rovers players and supporters a huge lift as we prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.

We are showing positive signs of adapting to the level we are now playing at and must continue that by beating early Conference leaders Halifax at the Mem on Saturday.
