IT MAY still be five weeks until the players return for pre-season training, but for one of the club’s latest recruits, he can’t wait to get going in a Forest Green shirt.

Delano Sam-Yorke became the club’s third permanent signing this summer, penning a one-year contract to join the FGR revolution on Friday morning.

The one time Conference play-off winner has made Forest Green the sixth club of his career after his time at Lincoln City came to an end.

He’s now enthused about what is to come in Nailsworth as he hopes to be part of another team in the division pushing for promotion success.

He said: “I’m excited, happy and just ready to go now. I’m excited and looking forward to the task ahead.

“I’m here now so I’m looking at the ground and everything and I’m excited for the forthcoming season.

“It’s always the plan to get promoted from the Conference and coming here I think we can achieve that.”

The 26-year-old helped Cambridge United to promotion via the play-offs in 2014, scoring two goals in the U’s play-off semi-final success over FC Halifax Town.

He wants to achieve similar feats at The New Lawn as he did with Cambridge and feels he understands what needs to be done to succeed in the division.

“I spoke to the manager, I had a few conversations with him, and the ambition of the club suits me,” he added on his arrival.

“I’ve heard a few things about Forest Green and I’ve always liked coming here.

“I’m comfortable in this league. I know a lot about the league. I know that is it a physical league.”

Sam-Yorke, who scored against FGR for Lincoln in November at The New Lawn, started his career at Woking.

A move to AFC Wimbledon followed, but one of his most successful spells came in the Conference South at Basingstoke Town, where an impressive goal scoring record offered him some much-treasured confidence.

“I was at AFC Wimbledon and didn’t really get a chance because they had a lot of good players.

“I went along to Basingstoke for a few months and that really helped me. And after that season I signed back for Basingstoke. I was there for two years and think that I did well there.”

His arrival adds to the club’s attacking options that feature the talents of Kurtis Guthrie, James Marwood and Jon Parkin.

And the latter is a player Sam-Yorke is looking forward to partnering up with as he goes in search of the goals that will help FGR to success in the forthcoming Vanarama National League campaign.

“Parkin has got the physical presence and has a lot of different attributes. Hopefully together that can be very effective,” he concluded.
