GLOUCESTERSHIRE Women's hopes of reaching the John’s Trophy regional play offs faded as they were beaten by 37 shots 128-91 by Somerset Women at Bristol Arrow B.C.
Of the six rinks played they managed only one winning rink through Rachel Winter-Alsop (Wotton) Rita Gerry (Moreton), Di Wilson (Olveston), Margaret McColl (Cheltenham Spa) who up against Edna Bessell took a five shot lead after 10 ends 10-5 and never looked back.
By the 15th end they lead 16-9 and although the shots dried up over the next three ends they held out for a 18-16 win.
The other point came with from Jenny Westlake (Arrow), Myra Savage (Falcon), Pauline Gunn and Kay Gent (both Caer Glow) when up against J. Walmsley they fought back from 9-7 and 15-12 down to draw 19-19.
Sally Rolls (Gloucester Spa), Veronica Richie (Olveston), Julia Stannard (Nailsworth) and Rachel Hughes (Royal Forest of Dean) were one shot ahead at halfway against E. Amery before leading 13-11 on 18 ends only to lose out 16-14.
Iona Bird (Barnwood), Elaine Lewis (Redland Green), Lin Challenger (Page Ladies) and Gill Fry (Gloucester Spa) were 13-7 ahead against Stef Branfield before the shots dried and they could only score another two in a 25-15 loss.
Val Ayres (Lydney), Jean Crook (Stroud), Sue Osborne (Kingswood & Hanham) and Jackie Howes (Stroud) against K. Henbrow went from 9-7 down at halfway to be seven shots behind after 18 ends and lost 22-15.
It was not a good day for Val Molton (Kingswood & Hanham), Anne White, Jackie Ind (both Arrow) and Lindsay Collin (Page Ladies) who up against J. Young where only losing 10-7 after 10 ends only to crash to a hefty 30-10 defeat.
