CAM went down to a seventh loss in 12 matches on Saturday as they suffered a heavy defeat at second-placed Kingsholm in the Gloucestershire County League Division One.

Cam won the toss and elected to bat and had a decent start with opener Ryan Malpass hitting 21 before he was bowled with the score on 37.

However, all but one of Cam’s batting were in and out after that dismissal. Opener Stuart Newman hit 14 before he was caught, while number three Gareth Udal suffered a caught and bowled while on 13.

Skipper Adam Holloway was quickly back in the pavilion without scoring before wicket-keeper Jake Dolbear stood up to the Kingsholm attack to hit six boundaries in a knock of 32 before he was stumped.

The rest of the side contributed 15 runs which left Cam on one hundred all out after 29 overs.

It was a tough total to defend but Cam had a couple of successes against the Kingsholm batting. Udal bowled opener Ryan McGhee for four when the home side were on 23.

But Kingsholm buckled down and their opener Ross Tominey hit 28 before Holloway caught him off the bowling of Ryan Western.

Western also picked up the wicket of the home captain James Markey for eight but their number three John Veits stood firm and ended on an unbeaten 42, with number five Ben Harris also at the crease on ten, as Kingsholm passed the Cam total to record 101-3 in 24 overs.

There was no joy either for Cam seconds in their home clash against Kingsholm’s second string as they went down by 63 runs.

Cam were put into field and took nine Kingsholm wickets, with Tom Hancock taking three for 41 from his nine overs, and Oliver Carey and Hardic Shah both grabbing two wickets as the visitors reached 203-9 from their 45 overs.

It was not the best of starts in reply for Cam as skipper Tom Hancock went for a duck before Ryan Chandler followed for ten.

Number three Ryan Rice added 31 before he was caught out, and Carey also added ten more runs to the total as Cam tried to stay in the chase.

Jack Parrott scored an excellent forty but his stumping proved to be the last chance of reaching the Kingsholm target.

Contributions of 12 apiece from tail-enders Chris Wilcox and George Parrott offered some resistance but it was not enough to stop the inevitable with Cam finishing on 140 all out.

There was, though, some joy in the Cam clubhouse on Saturday as their third team beat Oldlands seconds by five wickets.

Cam fielded first and, after early encouragement for Oldlands, their batting fell away as they finished on 122 all out. There were two wickets each for Matthew Rose, Will Payne, Lee Roberts and Matt Tipper.

In reply, openers John Hancock and Tipper both hit mid-twenties innings before the middle order added contributions to take Cam to 123-5 and victory
