SLIMBRIDGE are in great shape to exact their revenge against rivals Yate Town when the two sides lock horns on Saturday, August 13.

Last season saw Yate Town do a number on the Swans, thrashing them 4-0 in August, while the return fixture in December ended up a goalless draw.

However, with Yate Town having picked up just one point from their first two games of the season, Slimbridge will fancy their chances of a result.

The Swans are currently sixth in the Evo Stik Southern League Division One South & West with four points from two games, and are only being kept out of the coveted top-five on goal difference.

Slimbridge won their opener 5-3 against Winchester on Saturday, August 6 before playing out a stalemate to Bishops Cleeve on Tuesday, August 9.

A solid start by their standards given how points were hard to come by in 2015/16, Leon Sterling’s side have a real chance to be in promotion contention after the weekend.

The Slimbridge manager has already made it clear that consolidation is the aim for the season, but a bright start to the new campaign can’t do his team any harm going into this weekend’s derby game.

Victory for the Swans could see them go top of the table if results went their way, while potentially plunging Yate Town closer to the drop zone.

Last season, it was Town who finished above Slimbridge, but they’re currently three points adrift and in bad shape going into Saturday’s encounter.

While having failed to score in either game against Yate Town in the previous campaign, Slimbridge will be considered slim favourites this time round.

Seven points from a nine is a possibility for the Swans, but derby games can often spring a surprise.

Yate Town are sure to respond.
