THORNBURY A suffered a tough start to the new season in Prem A with a 16-4 defeat to Vivo 1. Thornbury were missing a few players with injury which took its toll on the team.

Ryan Wilson was the only player to win his match with a comfortable 3-0 victory and Callum Davidson salvaged an extra point for Thornbury who will look to get their title push back on track next week.

Thornbury B were awarded a walkover win as bizarrely David Lloyd were unable to field an adequate strength team.

Thornbury D got their promotion push off to a good start with a 16-9 win away at Lansdown D, there were 3-1 for each of Viv Bailey-Gard, Pete Bowen and Ian Johnson. Nigel Tovey was also unlucky to lose out 3-2 after taking an early lead in the final set.

The newly formed Thornbury E team played their first match at Redland H coming out victorious winning 4 matches to 1 by a 17-7 margin.

Colin Preece played the first match for the team and fought hard but lost 3 games to 1 against a younger opponent, next Graham Dono won 3-2, winning 10-8 in a tight fifth game.

The wins continued with Bill Ellis coming out on top 3 games to 1 and Nick Clifton cruising through his match 3-0. Finally Nigel Ball played and after a hiccup in the second game won 3-1; a good start to the season for a team of experienced campaigners.
