CITY finally ended their eight match winless run with victory over Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night in an FA Cup third round replay.

Jamie Paterson scored in the 17th minute and City eased to victory with ‘keeper Frank Fielding never really being troubled in the City goal.

But the win only came after another gut-wrenching defeat at Ashton Gate, this time to rivals Cardiff City.

For the second home league game in a row, City squandered a lead to lose late on and this result now means a club-record of seven defeats in a row has been equalled.

City, in fact, led Saturday’s eagerly anticipated Severnside derby twice.

Just after half-time, Joe Bryan’s excellent volley from outside the box came off the underside of the crossbar and went in off the unsuspecting Cardiff ‘keeper.

But City were pegged back on 74 minutes when Mark Little made a clumsy challenge in the area and Pilkington converted the resultant penalty for the visitors.

But just four minutes later, City took the lead again after some good work down the left from Bryan, Djuric headed the ball back across goal and Tammy Abraham bicycle kicked the ball home from close-range to score his 18th goal of the season.

Unfortunately, Bryan played a significant part in Cardiff’s equaliser as he failed to mark Harris properly who was able to head the ball past Fielding from six yards.

It was difficult to fault a City player for Cardiff’s winner, though, as Pilkington lashed the ball home from all of 25 yards.

Despite the win at Fleetwood City’s league form still means Lee Johnson’s job is in a very precarious position.

On Saturday, we travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest in another six-pointer (3pm).

Forest lie on the same number of points as City and are also winless in seven league matches. This is another massive game that Johnson, in my opinion, cannot afford to lose.
