CITY continue to tumble towards the trap-door of the Championship as we lost an unprecedented and club record eighth consecutive game on Saturday in a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

It was, bluntly, a very poor display against one of the worst Forest sides I can remember seeing in recent memory. The home side themselves were winless in seven games prior to the match.

Pressure is seriously mounting on head coach Lee Johnson who seems out of his depth.

There are rumours of a lack of respect and belief in the City boss from some players and he appears to have ran out of ideas of how to turn around City’s desperate form.

On Monday, I was actually fully expecting him to be relieved of his duties but instead, to my surprise, owner Steve Lansdown appeared on local media to give his support to Johnson “for the time being”.

It wasn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for Johnson, and in fact a club statement released on the same day from Lansdown made no reference to the City boss.

Instead the owner’s statement made reference to the progress City had made, particularly off-field, and stated ominously that he had “no intention of seeing this wasted”.

I would say there is now a significant strength of feeling from supporters that Johnson should be removed from post, and, unless there is a dramatic upturn in performances and results, then his position will become untenable.

City travel to Premier League side Burnley on Saturday in the FA Cup fourth round and it would be a real ‘coupon-buster’ if City were able to get any kind of result at Turf Moor.

In many respects, this is a low-pressure game for Johnson and his charges. The two big, and surely decisive, games for City’s head coach come next week when Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United visit Ashton Gate.

Wednesday are in town next Tuesday (7.45pm) and represent the toughest opposition of the two games as The Owls currently occupy a play-off position.

Rotherham are currently propping up the Championship table and, quite simply, this is a must win game for the club, whether Johnson is still in charge or not.
