CITY finally won their first league game in two months with a narrow 1-0 victory over bottom of the league Rotherham United on Saturday.

This was no doubt a ‘must win’ game for manager Lee Johnson and the club as a whole, but the performance left a lot to be desired.

The starting line-up looked a good one on paper with Tomlin playing just behind Abraham upfront, Hegeler and Pack anchoring the midfield and loan signing Cotterill playing out on the wing.

But in the first half City never really got going. Abraham should’ve done better from close range early on and then the visitors went close through Ward. There were some boos at the half time whistle, which frankly is unsurprising given the run of form we are currently having to endure.

But the crowd really got behind the team early in the second half and Abraham had another great chance to open the scoring but directed his header straight at the Rotherham ‘keeper.

But manager Johnson had seen enough by the 58th minute and made a triple substitution. He took off crowd favourites Abraham and Tomlin and boos rang around Ashton Gate.

It was a brave move and it paid off as 15 minutes later Taylor and Djuric, who were brought on, were both key players in City’s winner. Taylor set up Paterson whose shot was headed home by Bosnian Djuric for his first goal for the club.

City remain three points clear of the relegation zone but now face a February packed with tough away fixtures. City travel to Derby County on Saturday (3pm) to face Steve McClaren’s side, who are involved in a big FA Cup replay at Leicester City on Wednesday night.

Then on the following Tuesday we play Leeds United at Elland Road who have been having a very good season under manager Garry Monk.

We need to keep the momentum going after Saturday’s win but truthfully it is difficult to see where the points will come from in these two games.
