CITY head coach Lee Johnson has labelled Saturday’s home game against relegation rivals Burton Albion as a “must-win”.

We are now outside the Championship relegation zone only on goal difference after suffering our 19th league defeat of the season at Villa Park on Tuesday night.

Johnson’s statement that Saturday is must-win and owner Steve Lansdown’s comments of last week that Johnson would “one hundred per cent” be in charge of City until after the Burton game, suggests to me that Saturday is very much last chance saloon for the City boss.

Anything less than a win against fellow strugglers Burton could well mean the end for Johnson after what must be one of, if not the, the worst run of results in the club’s history.

We have taken nine points from the last 57 available. Nine points from the last 19 games, yet still remarkably in that entire time, we have yet to drop into the bottom three. Defeat or even a draw on Saturday would very likely put pay to that.

Last Saturday, City did spring a surprise at St James’ Park as they took a 2-0 first half lead through Wilbraham and Cotterill.

But the Magpies came on strong in the second half and a Smith own goal and Clark goal late on levelled the game at 2-2.

It was a good point but, on Tuesday, City succumbed to two Villa goals in the second half, both of which were set-up by former City favourite Adomah.

Following the Burton game on Saturday (3pm), City host Norwich City at Ashton Gate next Tuesday.

We beat Burton 2-1 in our opening away game of the season back in August and so we must hope for a repeat result on Saturday.

Norwich, meanwhile, have had a very up and down season but still have an outside chance of making the play-offs.

Given our awful away record, we really have to take advantage at home and so we should be looking for four or even six points from these two fixtures.
