CITY'S season ended with a disappointing performance at home to Birmingham City on Saturday.

There were jubilant scenes in the away end as Blues narrow 1-0 victory meant they stayed in the Championship and Blackburn Rovers were relegated to League One despite winning 3-1 at Brentford.

Ok, so it was really a meaningless game for us but we lost battles all over the pitch and created few chances.

Birmingham, on the other hand, looked a physically strong side and were fully deserving of their win.

Our last two matches kind of sum up our season. A brilliant win at Brighton last Saturday when we looked fired up and organised versus the performance against Birmingham which was so flat.

We either play really well or don’t turn up, mostly the latter it has to be said, and that remains a massive concern going into next season with Lee Johnson still at the helm.

Johnson will have to make improvements to the defence for next season, which was one of the most porous in the league this term. He will also have to think about where the goals are going to come from with top scorer and teenage sensation Tammy Abraham heading back to his parent club Chelsea this summer.

Abraham has been the biggest ray of light in a disappointing season and his contribution will be missed massively next season.

Next season Johnson will not be able to afford such an abysmal run of form that we went on from October to March this season. During that period we lost a club record 8 straight games.

I still have huge reservations about Johnson and feel it is likely we will be in another relegation battle next season. However in a recent interview Johnson did at least admit he was going through a period of “self-reflection” in regard to what has happened this season and that provides some optimism that lessons can be learnt and we can build on a positive end to the season.

See you again in August!
