CITY secured a second successive league victory at Portman Road on Saturday with an impressive 3-1 victory over Ipswich Town, which was fully deserved.

It was City’s first win at the Suffolk club’s home since 1978 when both clubs were playing in the top flight of English football.

On Saturday’s evidence, it is City who look the more likely to make a return to the top division.

City flew out of the blocks and took the lead after just three minutes.

Even though we were sat at the opposite end of the ground, City fans were treated to an excellent view of Brownhill’s strike as it took a slight deflection on its way into the Ipswich goal.

It was midfielder Brownhill’s second goal of the season and it is pleasing to see that the 21-year-old has added goals to his already-promising all-round game.

City continued to pour forward and Ipswich had the woodwork to thank after Bobby Reid slammed the ball against the crossbar from close range.

But City’s inevitable second came on 31 minutes. The man with the most assists in the division, Jamie Paterson, send a wonderful cross into Diedhiou who expertly nodded the ball home from eight yards.

The home side managed to pull a goal back before half-time through Waghorn, though I felt it was scarcely deserved.

The second-half was a more even affair.

Ipswich resorted to hitting a lot of hopeful long balls and City went more direct in comparison to the passing game they executed well in the first period.

But I always felt we had that little bit of extra energy in the side and City scored a decisive third goal with eight minutes remaining.

The Championship’s top goalscorer Reid fired in another deflected shot to give City a well-earned win.

The result means we go into the international break in fourth place and with the best goal difference in the division.
