Sub zero temperatures greeted the six brave Thornbury runners who lined up for the start of the Two Bays Tough Ten in Weston-super-Mare on Sunday morning. The 10-mile course starts from the Grand Pier and heads out to Sand Point, with sections of road, nature trails and hilly paths through Worlebury Woods in between.
Several of the TRC runners competing are in the middle of marathon training and they used this race as part of their preparation. Paul Thomas was the first TRC finisher in 123rd place in 1 hour 21:34 mins, followed by Ian Evans in 161st in 1 hour 24:13 mins. Kevin Cundy was next in 210th in 1 hour 27:30 mins and Hugh McPherson 295th in 1 hour 32:24 mins. Angela Bushell was the lone Thornbury woman in the race in 328th position in 1 hour 35:13 mins and Mike Bennewitz was only a few strides behind in 331st in 1 hour 35:36 mins.
John Grimsey had another busy week’s racing and was back for the most recent instalment of the Weston prom run series on Thursday night. John joined over 300 runners on the promenade, finishing the 5-mile race in 287th place in a time of 50:11 mins. John went on to run the Burnham and Highbridge parkrun on Saturday, finishing in 177th in 31:26 mins.
Ross Phillips was the first of the TRC runners at Chipping Sodbury parkrun in a time of 22:24 mins in his first outing on this course. Kevin Wood was next in 22:43 mins, followed by David Palmer 27:36 mins and Anne Palmer 31:56 mins.
There were 8 TRC runners at Thornbury parkrun on Saturday. Laura Orna had another good run after her stellar cross country debut in Cheltenham the previous weekend, and she was the second women to cross the line in 24:07 mins and 13th overall. Moray Sloan was the fastest Thornbury runner on the day in 22:25 mins, which was a new personal best time on this course. Other results included Kevin Cundy 24:23 mins, John Mann 25:01 mins, Reuben Williams 31:50 mins, Woody Williams 32:18 mins, Jo Williams 32:19 mins and Rebecca Dunsford 50:35 mins.
Kevin Arnold ran his 121st parkrun and his first at Melksham in 22:25 mins.
