It’s a ‘make or break’ Easter weekend for City in the race for a play-off place in this season’s Championship campaign.

On Good Friday City travel to Oakwell to face relegation-threatened Barnsley (3pm), before welcoming Brentford to Ashton Gate on Easter Monday (3pm).

Realistically, I think a minimum of four points are required from these two games if we are to have a good chance of finishing in the top six.

I was encouraged to hear head coach Lee Johnson speak in his midweek press conference about the need for City to focus on our game instead of worrying about what others do.

I feel too often in his time in charge at the club he has had a tendency to be overly concerned with how the opposition will set up to play and set out to counter that.

This season we have proven that on our day we can be a match for anyone in this division. Therefore, it makes sense to concentrate on playing to our strengths and let the opposition worry about us.

Neither Barnsley or Brentford will be pushovers. The former lie one position outside the relegation places and are fighting for their Championship survival.

That said, the Tykes are on a very poor run of form that has seen them fail to win any of their last five games and they have only won seven matches all season.

We comfortably beat them 3-1 on the opening day of the season and a repeat scoreline on Friday would be just the ticket.

Brentford are a side I rate highly. Particularly at Griffin Park they play a fast tempo, attacking style of football in which they create lots of chances to score.

They are however not quite as effective away from home and with our strong home form I feel this too is a very winnable game.

Our last eight games should be treated as cup finals.
