BRISTOL'S Mayor Marvin Rees joined over 13,000 runners who took to the streets of the city centre for the ever-popular Bristol 10k.

First across the line for Thornbury’s contingent of nine runners was Kevin Wood in 1,172nd place and fifth place in 60-64 age category in 45:37 mins.

Emma Pritchard was 5750th and dipped under one hour in 59:20 mins, followed by Elizabeth Dix 6,182nd in one hour 39 seconds, Charlotte Cross 6,659th one hour 02:04 mins, Mike Rush 7,027th one hour 03:04 mins, Stacey Cann 8,162nd one hour 06:59 mins, Pamela Toland 8,320th one hour 07:38 mins, Amanda Thompson 8,321st one hour 07:38 mins and Katherine Taylor 8,995th one hour 11:01 mins.

The next stage of the hotly contested Thornbury Road Running Championship took place on Monday evening on the flat and pacey Berkeley 10k course with some excellent overall and age-group results.

Nick Williams was back in action only one week after a 50 mile ultra-marathon and finished in 22nd place in 37:24 mins.

Henry Orna was aiming for a sub-39 min time and smashed his target with a time of 38:36 mins in 29th place.

Paul Harrod was next in 62nd place in 41:11 mins, followed by the evergreen Nick Langridge who was 86th and second V65 in 43:15 mins.

Joanne Plumbley produced the result of the day by taking top honours in the V40 age category in 43:22 mins and 10th female. Lizzie Williams and Colette Jackson produced another close finish, with Lizzie holding on to finish in 20th place in 45:14 mins to Colette’s 22nd in 45:20 mins. Clare Watt was second in V55 age category and 29th female in 46:45 mins.

Other results on the day included Ian Evans, who was competing one day after completing an Olympic distance triathlon, in 159th 47:41 mins, Martin Smith 169th 48:13 mins and Mike Bennewitz 181st 48:43 mins.

Sonya Bryson charged through the field in the second half of the race to finish 45th female in 49:16 mins, Angela Bushell was 60th female in 50:41 mins and Jon Welsh was back after a long period of injury and made a good comeback in 219th in 50:55 mins.

Malcolm Carr was 259th in 53:39 mins, Brian Godsman 268th 54:30 mins, Karen Carr 99th female 56:08 mins, Arthur Renshaw 303rd 57:23 mins, John Watt 334th 59:43 mins, Suzy Cundy 135th female 59:53 mins, John Fox 354th one hour 1:41 mins, Cathy Watkins 153rd female one hour 2:40 mins, Cathy Wilmott was 3rd V65 and 158th female in one hour 4:21 mins and Magda Johnson was 174th female in one hour 6:09 mins.

Thornbury runners were at two parkruns on Saturday. Jim Godden was fifth overall in a new personal best of 20:52 mins, followed by Reuban Williams 24:37 mins, Colette Jackson 27:01 mins, Arthur Renshaw 27:58 mins, Malcolm Carr 28:13 mins, Rebecca Dunsford 34:44 mins, Woody Williams 38:44 mins and Jo Williams 39:35 mins.

Laura Orna was third female at Eastville Parkrun in 22:04 mins. Kevin Cundy was next in 23:10 mins, followed by Suzy Cundy in 29:42 mins.

The blueseventy51 Fiver Standard Distance Triathlon was held over the Olympic distance of 1500m swim, 40k bike and 10k run at the Cotswold Water Park on Sunday and Ian Evans and Sarah Newnes were flying the Thornbury flag. Ian finished in two hours 46:09 mins in 213rd place (35:07 swim, 1:15:02 bike and 50:58 mins run) and Sarah was 350th in three hours 09:35 mins (36:40 mins, 1:27:54 bike and 56:23 run).
