CHAMPIONSHIP side Bristol City were eliminated in the first round of the Carabao Cup after losing 1-0 at home to Plymouth Argyle.

Yann Songo’o scored his first goal in nearly two years for the League One side.

Lee Johnson’s men reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup last season, beating Plymouth, Watford, Stoke City, Crystal Palace and Manchester United before losing to eventual winners Manchester City, but they’ve fallen at the first hurdle this time.

Lloyd Kelly should have forced a penalty shoot-out, but he headed a good opportunity wide of the post.

Korey Smith also had a goal disallowed for offside, while Callum O’Dowda forced Matt Macey into a smart save.

It wasn’t to be for City, and now Argyle have won their second EFL Cup first round clash in 11 years.
