Thornbury Town secured their first ever victory in the Hellenic League as they welcomed a Cirencester Development side that was sat at the top of the table.

Clinical finishing saw Town dismantle the visitors 6 - 1 after goals from Marcus Wormwell, Toby Bennett, Brandon Benjamin, Pete Fowler and Matt Davis.

The opening exchanges of the game were played at a fast pace, but the Thorns didn't take long to establish control of the encounter.

Cirencester were restricted to long range efforts, that goalkeeper Kurtis Parkin was able to save comfortably, but it was from there first real chance that Thornbury counter attacked and scored.

Parkin saved well from Dan Wheeler and the Thorn's struck fast, Scott Mcloud breaking and crossing for Wormwell to net the first of the game.

Benjamin then outpaced the defence for Thornbury and crossed Bennett to fire home to make it 2-0 shortly afterwards.

Cirencester then won a penalty, with Parking fouling the away side striker Gudgen, he coolly finished his spot-kick to half Town's lead.

Thornbury then won a penalty of their own when Joe Guest burst into the box, before being brought down. Bennett's spot-kick was brilliantly saved by the Ciren goalkeeper, but Wormwell was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Half time came and went, and shortly afterwards Town had sealed the game. Benjamin chipping the goalkeeper, before captain Fowler steering a powerful header into the back of the net.

Gudgen hit the post for Cirencester, who grew into the game after Fowler's goal. However Parkin, Town's skipper and Bennett repelled the attacks.

The final goal of the game came in the 85th minute, when Wormwell latched onto a poor backpass. On for his hat-trick he fed the ball to Matt Davis to score at the far post.

A convincing first win for Thornbury in their debut season in the league. They now face Clanfield 85 on Saturday,at home at 3:00pm.
