Yate Town’s unbeaten league record remains intact although for long spells it came under serious threat from against Moneyfields, writes John Davis.

Adam Price and Dave Sims-Burgess' goals weren't enough as Yate conceded a stoppage time equaliser.

Moneyfields dominated much of the first period of the game. In truth, they could have gone in at the break two or three goals ahead.

It was only the heroics of goalkeeper Lewis Thomas that kept them at bay as he made a strong full length save to a Brett Poate free kick, blocked an effort from Joe Briggs and pulled off a double save from Lewis Fennemore and then Dan Wooden.

At the other end, Adam Price fired over the bar, Dave Sims-Burgess had an effort from the edge of the box saved, a Joe Guest shot was charged down and Ollie Mehew was halted by Moneyfields goalkeeper Steve Mawthorpe as he chased a lobbed pass from Elliott Keightley.

Yate looked more threatening at the beginning of the second half and almost went in front. Moneyfields gave the ball away with a cross-field pass and after Mehew had given Sims-Burgess a shooting chance only a strong hand from Mawthorpe kept the ball out.

However, it was the visitors who got on the score-sheet first after Briggs had been brought down in the box and was awarded a penalty. Thomas got down well to block Conor Bailey’s spot kick and then Daniel Wooden’s follow up but he was eventually beaten when Bailey finished.

The home side’s response was almost immediate as Josh Ford sent a looping centre into the box and Price created the space he needed to volley in strongly at the far post.

Lifted by the goal, Yate went for a second and it soon arrived when the visitors were dispossessed in midfield and Jack Twyman put Sims-Burgess through to squeeze his shot into the corner.

There was a scare at the other end when Bailey’s free kick passed right across the face of the goal without anyone adding the finishing touch until Moneyfields dampened the ending with an equalizer in stoppage time. Substitute James Guthrie made ground down the right and although his low cross into the goalmouth missed several Moneyfields players until Sam Pearce arrived quickly beyond the far post to hammer the ball home.
