ONE thing Bristol City fans are looking for this season is more consistency after the “feast or famine” form of last season, writes Will Collins.

But following four straight wins we’ve now lost two and have a tough game this Friday (7.45pm) against Steve Bruce’s strong Aston Villa side. Despite having one of, if not the, best squad in the division Villa haven’t actually had the best of starts winning just three of their opening nine fixtures. They lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday in their last game and so hopefully their confidence will be a little fragile. Their starting line-up is likely to contain three players very well known to City fans: Jonathan Kodjia, Tammy Abraham and Albert Adomah. All three were excellent for us and will no doubt pose us a big threat on Friday. A bumper crowd of over 23,000 is expected, hoping City get back to winning ways.

City fell to a second successive defeat last Friday night at the DW Stadium.

After actually playing pretty well in a 4-2 defeat at West Brom last Tuesday, City turned in a wretched display against Wigan Athletic in front of the Sky TV cameras with very few positives to come out of the game. In fairness, Wigan weren’t much better as both sides cancelled each other out in a low-quality first half. The home side won the game with a moment of magic seven minutes into the second half. Josh Windass’ delightful cross into the box was met by the head of Nick Powell who gave Niki Maenpaa no chance from close-range.

Famara Diedhiou had City's best chance of grabbing an equaliser, but his stoppage-time header from close range went straight into the arms of goalkeeper Christian Walton. Until that point City had created very little and Head Coach Lee Johnson pulled no punches after the game saying: “I'm almost a little bit embarrassed tonight and I'm really sad to have to say that. We didn't play with any cohesion. We were outfought. We were outplayed and we didn't deserve to win”.
