The Ladies Hockey season got underway at the weekend with Yate Hockey Club losing 4-0 away against Cheltenham in the Premier Division 1.

Elsewhere within the club, the Ladies second team beat Weston-super- Mare 3-2 after coming back a two goal deficit. The Ladies third team drew 1-1 against Firebrands fourth team.

The club also held their annual President’s Day ‘HockeyFest’ which raised £320 for Brain Tumour Charity.

Meanwhile, within the Junior section Lucie Goulden, Charlotte Hollywood and Will Newell have been invited to join the England Hockey Bristol Performance Centre, for players aged 14-17.

Club umpire Andy Newell also received the Richard Powell Memorial award, which is presented by Avon County Women’s Hockey Umpires’

Association. Andy undertook his first umpire training less than three years ago but has since played a central role in umpiring for the club and beyond.

The Richard Powell Memorial Award recognises the huge contribution that Andy makes to umpiringwithin the local area, and the commitment he’s shown to developing his career.
