Thornbury RC runners were involved in three different half marathons at the weekend. The Forest of Dean Half Marathon is an attractive alternative to running on roads as it is ran entirely on rolling trails through the woods. Jim Godden led the way for the club with a time of 1 hour 32:11 mins in 45th place overall and 4th in the VM50 age group. Fast-improving Ian Evans was next in 110th in 1 hour 39:06 mins and Laura Orna was 129th and 5th in her age group in a time of 1 hour 41:02 mins.

Suzy Cundy and Magda Johnson were competing furthest afield at the weekend in Windsor Half Marathon. The race starts and finishes in the shadow of Windsor Castle and both Suzy and Magda drew inspiration from the regal setting, as they recorded new personal best times over the 13.1 mile distance. Suzy was 2810th overall and 839th woman in 2 hours 14:23 mins and Magda was 3842nd overall and 1443rd woman in 2 hours 33:46 mins.

Jay Mosley produced a good performance at Cheltenham Half Marathon on Sunday, finishing 210th overall out of almost 3000 runners in 1 hour 33:34 mins.

Ian Shepherd is a regular at the Green Man Ultra and was back again at this popular 45 mile off-road race around Bristol on Saturday. This challenging race starts and finishes in Ashton Court and loops around Bristol on the Community Forest Path. Ian was 139th overall in a time of 11 hours 41:53 mins.

Matt Johnstone was at his local race on Sunday for the Watermore 10k, which starts in Frampton Cotterell and crosses the Frome Valley to Winterbourne before heading back again. The villagers and churchgoers were in good voice and cheered the runners around the rolling course, which is a mix of road and off-road. Matt finished 7th overall and 3rd in the VM40 age category in 38:19 mins.

TRC achieved a first at Thornbury parkrun on Saturday as Henry Orna (19:43 mins), Garry Slater (20:17 mins) and Martin Coyle (new personal best of 20:21 mins) were the first 3 finishers. Other TRC finishers on the day included Jonathan Greenwood 23:03 mins, Kevin Arnold 23:45 mins, Rebecca Dunsford new PB 27:23 mins, Karen Carr new PB 27:48 mins, Chris Lee 28:06 mins, Duncan Pauly new PB 28:53 mins, Josie Cole 31:16 mins, Lynne Turner new PB 34:22 mins, Carol Mosses new PB 40:37 mins and Richard Jackson 51:45 mins.

Tom Usherwood ran 20:37 at Stonehouse parkrun and was followed by Nick Langridge with a new personal best of 21:33 mins on this course. David and Anne Palmer crossed the bridge to run at Newport parkrun and ran 28:12 mins and 33:27 mins, respectively.
