A YOUNG Thornbury side showed great determination against a stronger, more physical home side.

South Gloucs started strongly and put the Thornbury defence under much pressure .Elaine Arnold in goal executing a number of fine saves throughout the match though she was unable to prevent the home side from taking the lead after 10 minutes when a powerful shot gave her little chance. South Gloucs doubled the score minutes later to lead 2/0 at the interval Carys Allen, Megan Mclachlan and Ella Wheatley gradually assumed control in defence and the home side were denied any further goals until the last five minutes of the match when two quick goals made the final score flattering to the home side.

Following the South Gloucs opening goal, a Lucy Woodruff effort rebounded from the post an effort which proved the closest the visitors came to scoring. Rosie liddington, Jess Wilson and Anna Prince worked tirelessly up front with Lucy Wolter, Hannah Wilson, Mel Evans contributing much in mid field and Amy Horler was prominent in her sweeper role. The young side will have learnt much from this encounter with quicker passing the way forward.

On Saturday, Westberries 4ths visit Castle School, 10.30am.

SARAH Brealey's young side gave a promising display despite going down 4/2 Hannah Kemp in goal was player of the match for Thornbury making a number of fine saves in goal.

Lauren Lever ,Kate Wilson and Hannah Williams were prominent in defence for Thornbury whilst Yasmin Branfield, Charlie Griffith and Daisy Davis worked hard in midfield. Amy Long , Grace Atkinson , Ellie Coleman and Saffy Bennett probed effectively up front causing the visitors some problems.

Indeed, the Thornbury goal scorers were Ellie and Saffy.

Thornbury travel to play Lydney 3rds on Saturday looking to gain their first points of the season
