YATE Racketeers Junior Badminton Club are to hold an October open day in a concerted effort to entice more young people to attend their popular weekly sessions.

The free fun is available to children aged between five and 12, regardless of their experience and ability around the badminton court.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 6 between 10am and 11am at Yate Academy, Sundridge Park, Yate, Bristol, BS37 4DX.

Anyone wishing to attend the morning, or to find out more about Yate Racketeers which also provides badminton classes for teenagers up to the age of 18 between 11am and 12.30pm each and every Saturday, can contact Sue Blackmore on 07515 827671 or Penny Shears on 07941 013514 (email pennyshears@googlemail.com).

All club coaches are Badminton England-qualified and opportunities are available to progress to local adult clubs.

Meanwhile there was delight for Yate Racketeers rising young starlet Ethan Maggs as he attended a recent Saturday badminton session at Yate Academy.

Ethan had been nominated by his club for the Roy Niblett Trophy. Roy coached and ran a junior club in Bristol for many years before sadly passing away early in 2017.

The Bristol Badminton League award a trophy annually for their Young Person of the Year as a tribute to Roy, and Ethan, pictured in the centre with his shield flanked by Racketeers club-mates and coaches, was a happy recipient of the latest award.
