Baptists 1

Jamaica Bells 2

Thornbury Baptists crashed out of the GFA Intermediate Cup after Jamaica Bell came from behind to win.

An understrength Thornbury side, who had eight players missing, were left to rue missed opportunities as Jamaica Bell progressed in Alveston.

Aidan Maddox made his first start for over a year up front and he had a chance to put the home side ahead early on but his lob went agonisingly over the bar.

The Baps started to control midfield but the Downs Division Two side always looked dangerous on the break. Chances were few and far between in the first half but the deadlock was broken on 43 minutes when Maddox flicked the ball on to Ben Paddy and his cross was poked home by John Cordle.

The visitors equalised on 55 minutes when a speculative cross went straight in the far top corner.

Despite a lot of possession, the home side’s final ball let them down. The Baptist's defence could do nothing about the winner from the visitors, as a goalmouth scramble led to the ball finding an unmarked Jamaica player on the edge of the box who fired into the bottom corner.

Thornbury pushed for the equaliser and John Cordle had a great chance right at the death but his shot flew wide of the upright.

The Baps are at home to Clevedon in the league on Saturday.
