MANAGER of the month Michael Flynn wants his Newport County AFC side to end Forest Green Rovers’ unbeaten start to the season tomorrow.

Flynn, who was today named Sky Bet League Two manager of the month for September, is full of respect for Rovers boss Mark Cooper and his team who have won four and drawn seven of their 11 league games so far.

County won 4-0 at The New Lawn last October but Forest Green are currently fifth in the table – two places and four points below Flynn’s men – after a fine start to this campaign.

“It will be a very tough game,” said the Exiles boss. “They’ve improved a lot this season.

“Mark is a very good manager. He’s been around for a while now and they’ve got some very good players.

“They’re unbeaten so it’s going to be a tough one – they have shown how difficult they are to beat.

“But records are there to be broken and we want to go there and be the first team to beat them this season in the league. We’re going to try to win the game.”

The match is no longer all-ticket, meaning fans can pay on the gate tomorrow, and County hope to surpass the total of 815 travelling fans who made the trip 12 months ago.

“I know we’ll have a lot of fans there because it’s quite local so I’m looking forward to the atmosphere,” added Flynn.

“It was a brilliant atmosphere last season. It’s always good when you’re winning 4-0 but from the offset it was brilliant.

“And I remember when I played there as well – the crowd really get going on that side of the pitch.

“It’s a small ground and it’s not very often that the away fans make more noise than the home fans but this is one of those stadiums where it can happen.

“We want to put a show on for our fans and keep our run going and get as many points as we can on the board.”

The Exiles will need to avoid the sort of sloppy start that has seen them trailing 2-0 in their last two games before recovering to beat Cambridge United 4-2 and draw 3-3 with Macclesfield Town.

“We need to be 100 per cent on it and ready from the start,” said Flynn, who will hope that his side can replicate their excellent away performances from September.

County won 2-1 at Port Vale last month before recording 1-0 wins at Oldham Athletic and Tranmere Rovers.
