DURSLEY Running Club Tri team season finished with a flurry of team events.

Spokesman Andrew Oborne said: "We have chosen a series of triathlons through the year to focus on as a team and to organise training activities.

"We started off with the Westonbirt Sprint Tri in May, then Windermere Swim, Upton-on-Severn Standard Tri, Super Sprint relay in September and completed the season with the Warwickshire Sprint Tri.

"Sunday dawned clear but cold after a wet and miserable Saturday. Lots of discussion was had about clothing and how cold the bike would be. Very, was the answer with athletes literally steaming as they came out of the heated pool.

"Many then struggled to warm up again until part way through the run. The event was very well organised and marshalled. It consisted of a 12 length swim in the 33.3m Stratford Leisure Centre pool (400m), an 18km bike out to the North of Stratford and a 2 lap 5km out and back run along the Avon."

The DRC Tri Team boasted a pretty even split of women and men.

The star performer of the event was Fancessca Amigoni who came 4th overall in the ladies and 1st in her age category with a superb 01:06:37. There was a good battle for honours in the men’s event with Paul Breen (01:06:26) leading Luke Russell (01:06:30) by a mere 4 seconds after 23.4km of racing. Thanks particularly to our coach Tara Truman not only for her support on the day but for sacrificing her race entry by donating her bike wheel to another team member after a track pump disaster. Congratulations to Richard Lewis who completed 14km of the bike with a flat rear tyre after getting a puncture.
