Yate Town recognised a club legend before their FA Trophy match against Blackfield and Langley on Saturday.

Terry Tansley was presented with a silver tankard by club chairman Colin Pick before the game to celebrate six decades of service to the club as a player, club administrator and loyal supporter.

The club legend was also club secretary until the end of last season when he decided to call time on the role to enable him to spend more time with his family and grandchildren.

There was a guard of honour for Terry which was made up of Yate Town Development players, former Yate players, St Nicks players and friends and family as he went to collect his tankard.

Club president Roger Hawkins said on the day: "We hope that you enjoy your day Terry. Thank you for everything on behalf of Yate Town Football club.

"They say that behind every great man there is a great woman so thanks to his wife Pat for helping to plan today and keep it a secret from Terry but, more importantly allowing Terry to spend so much time at our football club.

Pat was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the club.

BBC Radio Bristol's Geoff Twentyman also commented on Terry's time at the club. He said: "Terry Tansley is the epitome of grass roots football – committed, loyal and modest to the core.

"I have been privileged to have known Terry for the best part of my thirty years in Bristol and he is an absolute top man.

"When I think of ‘Double T’ I think of a totally committed individual, someone who never seeks the limelight and was proud of the club he served with unerring professionalism.

"Yate have been very fortunate to have had Terry at the forefront of their administration.

"I wish his successor well, he or she has colossal shoes to fill.

"Terry enjoy a long and healthy retirement."

The day got better for Terry as Yate ran out 1-0 winners on the day.
