Thornbury 1

Thornbury started strongly, the majority of the first quarter being played in the Wick half.

Melinda Evans, Nicky Bruce and Amy Horler causing the home defence problems. It was not for the want of trying that Thornbury didn’t score a combination of good keeping and wayward shots denying the visitors.

Wick came more into the game and scored three quick goals to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Rosie Lidddington, Lily Wolter and Charlie Griffiths created a number of defence splitting passes but the strong home defence survived. Elaine Arnold, Carys Allen and Megan McLachlan dealt effectively with the Wick attacks in the second half to prevent the home side from adding to their three goals.

Indeed, following a pleasing interchange of passes involving Hannah Wilson and Annette Vizard led to captain Nicky Bruce reducing the deficit to score her side's first goal of the league season.

Sarah Newman, in goal, pulled off a couple of good saves in the second half, a half which Thornbury won 1-0.
