STROUD-BASED runner Rachel Felton crowned her first Stroud Half with a pulsating victory.

Felton, who has represented Great Britain at the World Half Marathon Championships, finished first lady in a time of 1.17.11, placing her 16th on a sun-kissed day.

"I really enjoyed racing on my home turf in the sunshine," said Felton, who runs for Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers.

A physio at Stroud Hospital, Felton stuck with the leading men and a determined finish saw her come out on top.

She added: "I had a great group of men around me most the way, which helped and I enjoyed the company.

"I felt strong towards the end and kept pushing on as I wasn't sure where the second lady was - I really wanted to win and can't believe I've been living in Stroud since 2005 and have only just done it. I'll be back next year to defend my title, I hope."

Andrew Davies won the 13.1-mile slog, clocking 1.08.05. Meanwhile, Jack Turner was first in for Stroud AC, finishing fifth in 1.18.17.

Dorothy Liviabella was first woman home in Stroud AC colours, finishing 253rd, posting 1.36.13.
