Saturday saw a fantastic turn out for Dursley Running Club, with 29 members at the second race of the Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country league writes David Durden.

The Charlton Park in Malmesbury course was far drier than last year, but still a very testing course.

Lucy Holdsworth flew the flag for DRC Junior girls running in the U13 placing an excellent 6th just 6 seconds out of a top 5.

Two Juniors ran in the male U20/U17s race, with Josh Wood in his DRC debut with James Durden.

Wood ran well, keeping a steady pace to finish in 28:25 (19th (15th MU17) with Durden finishing in 31:29 21st (16th MU17).

The senior women’s race saw eight DRC women, with Trevor Lewis joining them in the M65 race over the same distance.

Robyn Wait followed a strong run at the Gloucester 10K with a great 6th position. With half a mile to go, she chased down a group in front overhauling them to finish in 26:35 just 13 seconds outside the top five.

Margaret Johnson, placed excellently, with Alice Lewis and Rachel Brown shortly behind. Trevor Lewis finished brilliantly as first M70.

Four more women completed the race, Nicola Christopher, Julie Gowing, Jo Fears and Eileen Hieron. One of the best and most competitive DRC men’s team for a number of years turned out for the Senior Men’s event. Paul Hocking, Dan Anderson, Mike Crompton, James Everett, Matt Read, Dave Durden and Andy Truswell all competing as well as Nigel Sankey and Tony Wooldridge. Dave Wood, Jon Tudor and Martin Bragg all came home shortly after. Others putting in big efforts were Kevin Jackson, Andy Kilby, Pete Dunn and Kevin Brockway. The male A teams did well placing 10th in the seniors and 12th in the Veterans.
