Thornbury Running Club took on the Gloucestershire Cross Country League, as the second race of the event took place in Charlton Park in Malmesbury on Saturday.

19 members represented the club in the difficult test in poor conditions, however they were helped by the ground being firm and fast.

In the women's 6.7k race, Laura Orna finished in 31st place overall in a swift 29.27 mins.

Jo Emerson and Clare Watt were the next Thornbury runners finishing in 65th and 72nd respectively.

Clare achieved the best age group rating out of the runners, getting a 3rd place finish in the 55 age category.

Sarah Newnes was back in just her second cross country appearance after competing in the first round of fixtures at Old Down in Thornbury last month.

This time around she finished in 129th in 36.40, with Maddie Parrott in 139th just back.

Judy Mills in 150th finished in 39.04 with Josie Cole and Rebecca Dunsford notching a 152nd and 166th.

The Thornbury women's A team finished in the top half of the competition, in 17th place out of 41 teams.

Nick Williams made a welcome return this time around as an injury stopped him last month, finishing the 9.6k race with a strong 59th out of 250 runners.

Henry Orna notched a 101st place in 39.49 mins, closely followed by Dylan Roberts in 104th with 39.52 mins.

Club captain Jim Godden finished in 3rd place in the MV55 category and 132nd overall.

Nick Langridge was also involved for the club, bettering his time last year by three minutes.

He notched a 200th placed finish in 45.23 with Kevin Arnold in 226th with 47.57 mins.

Brian Godsman took on his first ever cross country and was able to finish just behind Kevin, in 227th place with a time of 48.03 mins.

The men's team was placed in 15th position out of 25, whilst the veteran team were 7th out of 24.
