FOREST Green boss Mark Cooper admitted he is on the look out for a striker in the upcoming January transfer window.

Rovers currently have Reuben Reid, Tahvon Campbell and Ben Morris who have managed just six league goals between them so far this season.

Forest Green lost Christian Doidge on deadline day of the loan transfer window, with his permanent move to Bolton Wanderers due to be made permanent when the window re-opens and the Rovers plans to use that money to bring in another forward.

"It always has been something we're looking at," Cooper confirmed. "There's no hiding the fact that we need another forward to give us that impetus when we're dominating games to go and finish it off."

The Rovers boss was frustrated with his attacking players against Morecambe and has challenged them to have more desire and do a lot better in front of goal.

"As a coach i can't really do anymore because I've got the players where I want them, in the final third putting balls across the face of goals and through goals," explained Cooper.

"They've got to produce that last little bit that will make them the better players in the team. Both CF's were stood outside the box when ball came in so you have to have people who are desperate to get on the end of a cross, it's not about looking good and doing a turn, get in the box and score.

"You have to produce that moment where we go past the full back or centre half and produce a telling shot or killer pass. We had four or five shots outside the box and not one hit the target and that's not acceptable but that's where we're lacking at the moment."

Rovers dominated against Morecambe but were hit with a sucker punch in the 86th through Aaron Wildig's close range strike but the Forest Green boss felt luck also deserted his team at that moment.

"The lad's mishit a shot where our lads have gone to cover where they thought it was going to go and their lad's was left unmarked," said Cooper.

"I could see it coming because we were playing well without hurting them and if you don't score and put them a chance to knock you out."

Cooper hasn't been able to fill his bench in recent games due to injuries which has left him short. It could have presented a chance for one of the academy players to get an opportunity but Cooper has explained why he's opted do so.

"They're nowhere near ready yet the academy lads so I don't want to do that to them when they're not ready," he explained.
