VCF Santos 3

Thornbury Baptist Church 1

Thornbury suffered their first league defeat of the season on Saturday as a resurgent VCF Santos ran in three second half goals to claim the points.

The Baptists could only manage an 84th minute consolation from John Cordle but Thornbury produced a lacklustre display.

It was a scrappy first 45 minutes but both sides missed decent chances to get their noses in front. Thornbury’s best chance fell to Aidan Maddox who has been in good form in front of goal but he shot wide.

The hosts took control in the second half scoring the critical blow in the opening minute. They had to wait until the 72nd minute to find a second but then put the game to bed on 80 minutes before Cordle’s late strike for Thornbury.
