A student from the University of Gloucestershire has landed his dream job, in the same year as a horrifying accident nearly left him dead.

Adam Micklewright, 21, studied Sport Journalism at The Park Campus of the university in Cheltenham.

He graduated on November 22 in a ceremony at Cheltenham Racecourse with all of his coursemates despite almost being killed earlier this year.

Whilst out socialising with friends, Adam suffered a blackout, collapsed and cracked his on the corner of a pavement.

It left him with a triple fracture to his skull and a severe bleed on the brain. He was rushed to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital before being taken to Southmead Hospital, where doctors put him into an induced coma for two weeks.

Adam confounded medics with the speed of his recovery and was discharged from hospital four days after waking up.

After four months of recovery, Adam returned to his studies, worked hard to catch up with his peers, and passed his degree with a First Class Honours.

Then in August his hard work paid off, when he was rewarded with his dream job at Fulham Football Club, his boyhood team.

He is part of the academy media team with aspirations of moving higher.

On his recovery and the job, Adam said: "This whole experience has taught me to try and get the best of myself.

"I felt as though I had a second chance, so I was going to throw myself into everything. Improving my grade was the starting point for that and I just kicked on from there.

"There are a lot of people to thank for allowing me to have this opportunity, with the university being one of them.

"The lecturers were great in easing me back into studying as well as guiding me through industry practices."

Tom Bradshaw, a Senior Lecturer of te course at the university, also revealed his pride at Adam's achievements.

"I remember speaking to Adam’s father, Andy, during a very difficult time last autumn when Adam was in a coma and his prognosis unclear," he said.

"For Adam to have not only overcome that injury, but to have actually taken inspiration from it and achieve what he has done, is nothing short of remarkable.

"We could not be prouder of him, he is an inspiration."
