Thornbury Ladies were denied their first victory of the season after a late equaliser from Avonmouth.

Thornbury were without their experienced trio of Nicky Bruce, Carys Allen and Elaine Arnold. started well with the young team captained by Sara Newman in goal showing great promise. Rosie Liddington and Megan McLachlan were sound in defence and distributed well from the back allowing Daisy Johnson and Jess Wilson room in midfield to put through balls to Mel Evans and Lucy Woodruff upfront. Molly Glue was a constant thorn to the visitors with a number of timely interceptions thwarting the visitors on numerous occasions. Play see-sawed from end to end in the first half with neither side able to find the net. Shortly after the restart, Lucy Woodruff gave Thornbury the lead with a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

Thornbury were pushing for their first victory of the season but the visitors were not to be denied and equalised with just 10 minutes remaining. The score remained 1-1 and Thornbury their first point of the season. League games will resume in January after a break.

Christmas came early for Sarah Brealey's second team as they brushed aside Avonmouth.Thornbury started confidently and took the lead after 15 minutes when Charlie Griffiths beat the home keeper with a powerful shot. The young visitors with Lucy Vizard, Megan Rigby, Amy long and Griffiths outstandingcaused Avonmouth a number of problems and Thornbury should have increased their lead in the first half. The half time talk from the captain saw Thornbury continue their attacking style and the team were rewarded with a further four excellent goals with Amy Long and Lauren lever both scoring twice. Liz McFerran making a welcome return to the club following a spell away was a constant threat whilst the defence impressively restricted Avonmouth to precious little.
