Bristol Premier Combination – Premier Division

Lebeq Saturday FC 1

Olveston Utd 3

Olveston Utd produced an excellent display on Saturday to get back to winning ways, at the expense of Lebeq Saturday FC.

The opening exchanges were fairly even, with both sides creating early chances and taking time to settle. It was the O’s who took the lead midway through the first half, with Matty Knight pouncing onto a through ball before slotting into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Olveston doubled their lead just before half time, Garraway swinging in a cross from a corner towards the back post where Venton hit a half volley into the roof of the net making it 2-0 at the break, his first goal for the club.

Lebeq came out firing in the second half, dominating the opening 15 minutes and forcing O’s goalkeeper Tom Bradley to produce a couple of excellent saves to keep his clean sheet intact. Having weathered the storm, the O’s made it 3-0 when Driver slotted an excellent through ball to the advancing Garraway on the right wing, who drove towards the box before cutting in and slotting home to make it 3-0. Lebeq did get a goal back with around 15mins to play, after a rare lack of concentration led to a shot from just inside the box into the top corner. Olveston managed to keep their cool and see the game out, eventually running out 3-1 winners.

In summary, an excellent performance from the O’s across the board; particularly the Williams brothers mopping things up at the heart of the defence, Driver controlling the game in the middle and Matty Knight’s relentless running up top giving the O’s a solid spine.

Man of the match sponsored by Liam Cole Bricklaying was Russell Driver, for dominating the midfield and being at the heart of all the O’s creative play.

Olveston’s next match is a home tie against Highridge Utd in the league this Saturday, 2pm.
