10-man Yate Town slipped to just their second league defeat of the season and surrendered top spot with a narrow defeat at Paulton Rovers on Saturday.

The Bluebells fell behind after just eight minutes when Josh Ford conceded a penalty for pushing Jack Ball in the box.

Ball stepped up and sent Lewis Thomas the wrong way.

Six minutes later Ford hauled back Ball again and was given a second yellow card and Yate had to play 75 minutes with 10-men.

Ryan Gay forced a good save from Thomas before Ball ran on to Fire over in the first half.

Yate started the second half well. Sam Kamara tested Rob Brown who also denied substitute George King moments later.

Paul Britton’s side had more great chances late on. Brown was again in the way, stopping King, Sam Boulton and Nick Peare’s efforts late on and Paulton held on.

Yate boss Britton said: “It was very frustrating,” he said. “To lose by just a penalty was tough. The 10-men gave everything but couldn’t get that goal. “Josh (Ford) has apologised so we move on from it and focus on to Saturday.”

Yate also came up against their former captain Charlie Hitchings at the weekend. Britton added: “He was delighted to keep a clean sheet against us.

“He went through a lot with us but decided to take up Paulton’s offer after losing his place in the team.”
