Olveston 2 Highridge 3

Olveston narrowly lost a thrilling contest at home to Highridge United at the weekend.

The O’s came out the blocks quickly and created a handful of golden opportunities in the opening 10 minutes but failed to capitalise.

Instead it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play and dominated the following 20 minutes, catching the O’s on the break and two more goals in the first half to make it 3-0.

Olveston managed to steady the ship and replied as Alex Thornton found the net five minutes before half time.

The second half saw Olveston have the lion’s share of possession and continue to create chances.

On 55minutes, Phil Williams received the ball from Venton and drove at the Highridge backline before he found the bottom corner to make it 3-2.

The O’s had momentum and continued to create chances but were just lacking that final touch to get an equaliser.

Highridge themselves still carried a threat and they forced Welsher in the O’s goal to claw a shot around the post.

Olveston had two more golden chances themselves in the final five minutes but Highridge saw the game out and took the three points.

Olveston visit Seymour United in their next league game this Saturday.
