Thornbury Town.............................1

Thornbury Town won their ninth straight league game to continue to keep pace with league leaders Kidlington Development.

Thornbury trip to the Corinium Stadium on Saturday proved to be a tough test but Thorns held on to secure a valuable three points.

The hosts started brightly and pressed forward looking for an early goal, however, it was Thorns who had the first clear cut chance after 10 minutes when home keeper Ayres miscued his kick straight to Craig Lancastle, who laid the ball off to Toby Bennett but his shot didn’t have enough power and the ball was cleared off the line.

Town were beginning to dominate possession but struggled to create clear cut chances but after a series of corners eventually took the lead in the 29th minute. Marcus Wormwell’s corner was met by Aaron Clark at the far post and his knock down reached Toby Bennett who fired home from close range.

Thorns went in search of a second goal before the break but the closest they came was a Luke Franklin effort from the edge of the area that went narrowly wide.

The second half saw the hosts quickly out of the blocks and in the first minute a superb Kurtis Parkin save denied Walsh an early equaliser.

Walsh then almost got on the end of Hargreaves cross but again Parkin got there first.

Thorns chances were few and far between although a weaving Lancastle run into the box set up a chance for Marcus Wormwell but a timely tackle by Woods snuffed out the chance.

Cirencester looked the most likely to score with Miles Arnold’s shot curling wide of the far post before moments later Max Arnold’s dangerous looking cross was deflected out for a corner.

The hosts continued to press but couldn’t find a way past Parkin who firstly tipped one close range effort on to the bar before quickly recovering to save the follow up shot.

Substitutions seemed to steady the ship for Town in the latter stages and they began to enjoy a bit more possession without seriously looking to extend their lead, although a couple of dangerous crosses into the area caused some panic in the home defence.

Town held on for the win and are looking ahead to their trip to Clanfield 85 on Saturday in the league.

Thornbury are fourth as all the top for are level on points.
