A BERKELEY football club has been given a boost in funds to buy new kit and equipment.

Severnside Nuclear Youth Football Club has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley to kit out its new U8s and U9s teams starting this season.

The club has been selected as one of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley’s Community Champions, receiving the funding as the latest winner of the community campaign. The scheme allows good causes across the region to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Club chairman Carl Tronier said: “We are proud to have such a quality company as a kit sponsor and couldn’t be more grateful.

“Football plays a big part in these children's lives and we strive to make it enjoyable as well as a way of keeping fit.

“We are a not-for-profit- organisation so donations like this make a huge difference. Our new teams will look like true professionals in their brand-new kits, and the new equipment will help ensure the team are reaching their full potential.”

The club has already worked hard to raise funds through fundraising events.

Carly Spear, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “We are delighted to select Severnside Nuclear Youth Football Club as part of our Community Champions initiative. Any football club is a big part of the community and it’s fantastic to see children start playing so young and progress through the teams.”
