FOREST Green defender Farrend Rawson insists the players aren't putting pressure on themselves in their promotion pursuit.

Rovers are seventh in League Two, just four points adrift of the play-off places.

Despite the team being within touching distance of the automatic promotion places, Rawson says they're going to put themselves under pressure but is keen to finish as high as possible.

“We never put pressure on ourselves as there's no need," said Rawson. "We’re enjoying our football, results are coming our way but why not, lets see how far we can take it but it’s a game at a time."

Forest Green have been boosted this month with the arrivals of Shawn McCoulsky, Junior Mondal, Lewis Ward and the return of Christian Doidge.

Whilst he was disappointed the move didn't work out for Doidge, Rawson is delighted to be re-united with a player who's helped him a lot during his time at Rovers and is excited at the prospect of having a £1m striker lead the line.

“He’s a top guy and he’s always looked after me since I’ve been at the club," Rawson commented.

"I’m sure the gaffer said what a good signing that actually is, I don’t know who we could have brought in but we’re very lucky to have a £1m Championship striker at the club."

The defender has also been impressed with McCoulsky and Mondal and feels he's been tested a lot more in training.

"The other two lads have come in and they’re young, they’re sharp and trainings been really intense," Rawson said.

"As a defender I’ve been really worked which is great so everyone’s buzzing and the signings have been good and it makes everyone up their game."

Rovers take on second place Bury on Saturday at the New Lawn. The Shakers dramatically beat promotion rivals MK Dons 4-3 at Gigg Lane last weekend but Rawson says the squad are excited to face Bury and says they enjoy facing the top teams.

“Bury are on form, I think they’ve got a big budget, they’ve got some very experienced players who’ve played higher," he explained.

"We enjoy playing the big teams because we can gauge where we are.

“We had a good game against them earlier in the season. It could have gone any way, we were 1-0 up and went down to 10 men and held on in the end so it’s an exciting game that everyone’s looking forward to."
