Moneyfields........ 1

Yate...................... 2

YATE Town boss Paul Britton felt his team thoroughly deserved their victory against promotion rivals Moneyfields on Saturday.

The Bluebells stormed into a two goal lead as Adam Price and David Sims-Burgess scored within five minutes just before half-time.

Moneyfields, who began the day top of the league, came roaring back in the second half when Lewis Fennemore pulled one back with 20 minutes to go.

In the end, Yate managed to hang on for a massive three points.

The Bluebells are third, level on points with Blackfield & Langley and Moneyfields, who went back to the top after a 2-2 draw against Street on Tuesday.

Britton was delighted with the win and was pleased to end Moneyfields long unbeaten streak.

“It was a great result,” he said.

“We thoroughly deserved our two goal lead at half time.

“We had to dig in more in the second half which was expected but they were on a 20 game unbeaten run so I’m delighted.

“We’ve just got to keep going now.

“After the defeat last week we were pleased to bounce back like we have done all season.”

Britton has admitted that as the season has gone on, expectation has risen.

Only goal difference separates them from top spot but Britton is focused on ensuring they at least finish in the play-offs.

“We’re 12 points clear of sixth and we have a 10 point cushion over Cirencester in fifth,” he explained.

“Our initial aim was to get close to the play-offs but our form has raised expectation and we’ll be gutted if we don’t get play-offs.”

Britton insists Yate won’t be looking too far ahead. He’s turned his attention to Saturday’s game against fourth place Evesham United as they look to keep up their impressive record against the top teams in the division.

“We have another tough one coming up against Evesham, another one of the top sides,” he said.

“We’ve taken it game by game ever since I’ve been here and it’s got to be that way, you can’t look too far ahead.”

Yate welcomed back Lewis Thomas from Forest Green who rejoined on loan last week and Britton was glad to have him back between the sticks.

“We were desperate to get him back,” he commented. “It’s not just his goalkeeping, he’s a great lad and has a good mindset.
